Director’s Message

If your goal is to serve the community as a first responder, look no further than the Southwest Florida Public Service Academy.  The academy offers programs in Law Enforcement, Corrections, Fire Fighting, and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), along with advanced and specialized training opportunities.  Our main campus sits on 20 acres, consisting of 13 buildings.  There are also seven satellite locations throughout southwest Florida, where trainings are conducted in conjunction with area law enforcement agencies.

The Southwest Florida Criminal Justice Academy is certified by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Standards & Training Commission (CJSTC).  Our programs prepare students to become Florida State Certified Police Officers, Correctional Officers, and Probation & Parole Officers. In addition to training basic recruits, the Southwest Florida Criminal Justice Academy offers advanced and specialty courses, providing continuing education and training of officers beyond basic certification. Currently, there are 15 law enforcement agencies in SWFL that we serve each day. The SWFL Public Service Academy is the 6th largest out of 40 academies throughout the State of Florida.

The Southwest Florida Fire Academy is certified by the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training, and the Florida Department of Health, to prepare students to become Florida State Certified Fire Fighters and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT). In addition to training basic recruits, the Southwest Florida Fire Academy also provides continuing education for certification in advanced and specialty courses. Currently, there are 28 Fire Departments in SWFL that we serve each day. The Fort Myers Fire Academy is the 5th largest Fire Academy in the State of Florida.

While you are preparing for a career in public safety at the SWFPSA, you will train in a state-of-the-art facility, with state licensure, and high graduation rates. It is our goal to ensure that each student receives the best training available, enabling successful career placement.

Thank you for considering the Southwest Florida Public Service Academy.  I look forward to meeting with you soon!
