Firefighting Advanced & Specialized

The Fort Myers Fire Academy in conjunction with the Southwest Florida Public Service Academy is pleased to announce we will now be offering continuing and advanced classes for firefighters. All of the classes offered at the Academy will be approved by the State for credit into FCDICE upon completion. Most classes are available for offsite instruction. Please contact us to schedule. Our class offerings are listed below:

 Fire Service Hydraulics FFP 1301

Description:  The course curriculum covers relationship between flow and pressure and mathematical hydraulic formulas. Students must bring a simple calculator with square root function.  Course includes pump theory, pump rating, and pressure and vacuum gauges. (Calculator required)

Fire Apparatus Operations FFP 1302

Description:  The curriculum covers the laws, rules and driving techniques for emergency vehicles, as well as a review of fire service hydraulics. Fire ground evolutions and a driving course make up the practical part of the course. The evolution portion of the course includes the use of pre-connected lines, tandem pumping, drafting, relays and master streams. The student should have a basic understanding of fire stream hydraulics prior to entering this course. Students must bring helmets and gloves as well as wear proper attire for water pumping exercises.

Aerial Apparatus FSFC 703

Description:  Classroom lectures and practical exercises are conducted in the principles and uses of aerial apparatus, including the recognition of hazards which may be present during aerial operations. The curriculum also includes classroom lectures and exercises in the principles, uses and tactical and safe placement of ladder and platform apparatus.

“First and Ten”

This class focuses on the “First Alarm” units and the “First Ten” minutes at a residential fire.  If we can achieve “Water on the Fire” and “All Clear” in those first ten minutes, bydefinition we are winning.  This class uses the morning to rotate through 3 stations brushing up on the basics:  Forcible Entry, Making the Stretch and Primary Search.  Then the afternoon is spent doing realistic, real-time scenarios where students will be challenged with various situations.

Forcible Entry- The Basics and Beyond PD11685

Description: Program is designed to provide students with basic and advanced fire ground forcible entry skills. The class will focus on challenges presented for forcible entry and use of traditional tools. Skills and techniques to be covered include conventional FE, thru the lock, burglar bars, locks, bolts, saws, windows, garage doors, hurricane protection, getting the most out of your tools, and much more. This course is designed to walk away from with real world confidence.

 Cost:                   $175.00
